Is there a way to test the wrapping paper? We added it to the metadata folder but not sure how we can test it, we tried in the emulator and the device with no success.

Yes, this is only for season games. If you sideload a game on your Playdate it will not have the custom wrapping paper.
FYI to test it we had to use a custom application made by Panic that would show the unwrapping. We couldn't trigger it directly from the menu.
