Hey y'all, what's good?
Just wanted to say that 「Kazoku」, my very first game, is now available for free on [itch.io] for anyone with a Playdate.
I did total usage of my free will to come up with two versions:
- Standard — the normal wording/labels
- Unhinged — same game, different vocabulary, wording, and labels
If interested, feel free to choose whichever you like the most, the game is the same, I only changed the strings, heh.
I submitted it to the Playdate Catalog some months ago, but after a few rounds of requested changes, the team decided not to accept it — and didn’t give an explanation. That part stung a bit more than the rejection itself; I figured they’d at least say why. All good though — no hard feelings. Instead of sulking, I’m putting it out free for anyone who wants to play it.
This is my first “serious” game project (or serious attempt at one), so yeah — it probably sucks in places. Feel free to leave suggestions or thoughts. And yes, I know the collisions are horrible.
I’m, of course, definitely NOT asking anyone for donations. If you want to toss some spare change into the digital piggy bank anyway, cool, and thanks — appreciated. I’m not going to pretend I’ve got pets to feed or a charity lined up, and I’m not going to claim “all revenue goes to whatever” nor anything. I just like drinking beer and designing/programming games while I do it. That’s the pitch.
Art & music: everything in this game is human-made. No AI whatsoever. Designs and art are mostly mine (Aseprite), I also hired a friend for some specific artwork, and a musician on Fiverr for the soundtrack, because I’m great at listening to music and terrible at composing it.

Side note: I’m also working on the next Playdate thing, CRXSSPR3SS — a pretty minimal combo/score builder with purchasable perks and abilities. The itch page exists (CRXSSPR3SS — a monochromatic combo-maker for Playdate by carcamusa_labs) but isn’t public yet; I’ll probably post more in a month or so.
