Battery drains fast on sleep

I know this topic has been explored in various threads and I'm aware that the hardware lacks a way to tell true battery status and so only has an approximate that fluctuates. But I would like to confirm that the battery does not last more than a day or two after full charge. My 1 month old device with latest 2.7.2 software, and wifi on "ask" mode, drains from 80% down to below 10% after only a day in sleep.at that level device forces a recharge so it cannot be ignored

Its hard to plan for any trip or traveling. Can anyone clarify:

  • how to put into deep sleep
  • how to turn device off fully
  • what max battery drainage on sleep without any use should we plan for, if we are meant to ignore the battery level indicator

Thanks. Still loving the device. Just noticing it may be a play at home device

There is no way to fully turn off the device to my knowledge, but you can put it into deep sleep by holding the lock button. There were some changes that they are trying to fix introduced in 2.7.0 that caused battery drain. The device can last about 2 weeks normally off a single charge (with on-and-off play.)

Thank you for the estimates and deep sleep mode. For anyone in future: deep sleep I activate while in the apps list, then hold lock for between 7-10 seconds. The screen will then go blank and be in deep sleep mode.

You can turn off the device completely. Unlock the device and keep holding the lock button for 10 seconds. The screen will turn blank and the device is powered off

Just FYI the new firmware 2.7.3 does not appear to improve battery drain issues. The changelog also doesn't indicate that it would or should improve on this issue

Tested firmware 2.7.3. Full charge lasted no longer than 24 hours on sleep with one hour of use in between, with wifi mode on "ask".

It would be good if an option to set deep sleep as the default mode when pressing the lock button were possible

for another data point. I'm on day 5 now since the 2.7.3 update, played about 30 minutes of overseer. I still have 70-80% battery.

I just found out the same issue with my Playdate for the last couple of weeks! I just leave it on the shelf, and after just in day it becomes totally discharged, but everything was nice just a month ago or less. Looks like some kind of firmware bug or smth?

Hey everyone, another user here with the battery drain issue while the device is on sleep — from 100% to 10%-0% in around 24 hours. I believe it started with update 2.7.2 and it seems 2.7.3 does not fix it. Also, my device is randomly crashing on unlock or while accessing the "Settings" with a required restart afterwards and that happens at least once every 24 hours.

Minor update. Tested with wifi off entirely, set to "never". Full drain still after 24 hours

Okay it appears the permissions setting of wifi to "never" may be ignored or not what we think it is. Even with it on never updates still take place. Or at least, despite the "never" wifi setting when I go into settings/games it still refreshes a d will update or download new games. So, I think wifi is always on regardless of setting

Permission settings are for using specific functionality inside games. The network permission allows games to make any network request. Even when off, games can use the Scoreboards functionality, because the system is doing the networking for that. Also, system apps (Catalog) and processes (game and firmware updates) are not affected by the setting app.

To properly disable all wifi, go into wifi, select your network and then choose Forget Network

Same issue since one of the last updates. Went from multiple days of idle with small battery drain to full battery depletion between 24h and 30h of idle.

I just saw a post on the Playdate Facebook page talking about that, and a comment saying that turning off "Set Automatically" in the Time settings is resolving the issue. I'm going to try that and will report back here in about a day.

Edit: Not working
