"Dots" - my first Playdate game

Heya!

I thought I share a mini-game that I made for Playdate today: itch, download link, source code.

dots-gameplay

"Dots" is a working title, and the game is sort of like a rhythm game without music (yet!) where you have to hit the "notes" by rotating crank to align the open circles. It was fun to work on and I probably don't mind taking it further in coming days.

Let me know what you think!

Very cool!

I love the little touch where the dots get smaller as they get near the centre of the circle. Juicy!

Are you going to add music soon?

This is the plan! I need to:

  1. Write a midi loop that is long enough to not be repetitive, but challenging enough
  2. Write a synth abstraction for Playdate that supports varying bpm

Well, I quickly came up with something, it was super fun: https://github.com/indutny/playdate-game/releases/download/v1.0.3/Dots.pdx.zip . It isn't perfect and I'll probably refine it tomorrow!

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if it is better with music (even if I make the music better). Perhaps, I should keep it simple as in original post?
