Eggs and Bacon - Dev Log

Hello there!

Wow! It’s been over a year since my last post on here! (And, yes, I added the frame fix to my blueberry bushes.) But that doesn’t mean it’s been over a year without progress! A lot has happened to Eggs and Bacon in that time, including a semi-implemented save system, slightly better music, and much, much more world! So, first: the save system.

Savin’ the Bacon (and the eggs)

So, after playing through this game many, MANY times while weeding out bugs and working on the world, I decided it would be cool if you could save your progress, so it isn’t completely pointless to collect money and buy stuff. And so, I pretty much just stole the save system I made for Island (more info on this one later), albeit with a few minor tweaks, as these are two rather different games.

So, when you hit “Save & Quit” it runs store and then puts you in the menu room. Also, I have it so whenever you go into a different room, it does lastRoom = "room", which allows the game to put you back into whatever room you were in the last time you played! This system is not fully finished, however, because the “story” kind of gets messed up, so I need the game to save what point you are at in making breakfast and then load you into that part when you start next.

Music

I also worked a bit on the music, and with some (or maybe a lot of) help from my brother, Eggs and Bacon’s music now sounds a decent bit better, so you can actually leave it on without throwing your Playdate in disgust! Yay! But there’s still a good bit of work to be done there…

The World…

The world of Eggs and Bacon is now way bigger! And, by the way, there is a MASSIVE amount of easter eggs and other funny bits because as I said earlier, I keep being like, “Man, it would be neat if you could do this!” And then that turns into a large irrelevant side tangent. But, it means you can eat raw bacon!

An old, abandoned house. How do you get in it?

The crater, the waterfall, and the recyclingthing.

The backyard! Needs some work, though. Especially that roof.

Well, thanks everyone for reading! I hope I’ll be able to report more progress soon! And, as always, any feedback or ideas is greatly appreciated!
