Looks great!

Does that flickering also happen on device, or is it just in the gif?

I just got this game. I'm on level 3 (I think) and I had a couple of feature requests:

  1. Let me know what level I'm on
  2. Let me know what my goal is to progress to the next level
  3. Let me know how much time (or hp?) I have before I die. The game over screen seems to appear out of nowhere.
  4. Levels feel very short - especially the first two.
  5. The difficulty curve seems pretty steep. Maybe another couple of levels before the first boss?

Overall, I'm happy with the game and having fun!

Hello, thanks for the feedback!

  1. That's an option I think I'll add to the info bar in a future build. More on the info bar below.

  2. One of the design challenges we faced while making fissh was the limited screen space available to the player. To maximize player view, we implemented an optional 'info bar' that can be turned on by hitting the Playdate's Menu button, then selecting 'info bar' from the options.
    infoBar

The info bar contains how many crabs/things you must catch in order to beat the level as well as the amount of croins you currently have. Also, in a future build, what level you're on :slightly_smiling_face:

  1. The timer for the game is the sun for level stages and the moon for boss stages. The sun will start on the left side of the screen and when it sets on the right side, the level will complete.

  2. The first two levels are veeeery short. The first levels are more of a learning tool to get a little used to the boat controls before getting to the first boss. All other stages have a lot more time for each stage.

  3. We've heard a bit about the overall difficulty of the game. There will be a build out later today (if all goes well), that should address this issue. Catching things with the claw should be significantly easier.

Again, thank you for your interest and the constructive feedback! I'd love to what you think after we release the next update.

PS - As a side note... if you are on the starting screen, wait until the music ends. A secret screen will pop up with some useful tips.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply and for continuing to work on the game!

I did have the info bar on. I guess I need to pay more attention

Personally, I like hard games, but I know that's not really the style these days. Anyway, thanks for your had work and a fun game.

Edit: The sun/moon thing is cool, but I'm not sure I ever would have figured that out. Maybe call it out in some way.

Appreciate it!

Pushed an update to Playdate's Catalog today.

  • Info Bar is turned on by default.
  • Starting claw's catch radius has been significantly increased. Should still be difficult but not unfair.

Also, the manual for the game was originally an Easter egg. I think not having it easily accessible was a mistake as it contains some really useful information for players. In a future build, I'm going to just have the player hit B to access it. Thanks again for your feedback!
