Missile Mayhem - A Missile Command style arcade game

Andrew Barton and I are excited to share Missile Mayhem, a Missile Command style arcade game.

In Missile Mayhem, you take command of the sole missile launcher to defend your 6 cities against wave after wave of incoming attack. How long will you be able to protect your cities and keep them alive? Use the crank for precision aiming, unlock upgrades like homing missiles and a rapid-fire laser, and show them you won't go down without a fight!

Missile action!

The game was built from scratch, written in C by me (Steve Blackwell) with fantastic 1-bit art from Andrew Barton. The sound effects were mostly made in ChipTone. And if you're interested in our explosion fade outs, see my post here.

Nice write up and good looking!

Should the white flash duration be tuned down? the explosion fade out feels a bit too much linear imho.

Thanks!

My goal with the white flash duration was to indicate 2 phases.

  1. A regular white circle for 200ms. Other missiles will impact with this explosion during this phase
  2. Fade out to black. Other missiles will fly through the explosion during this phase.

So the white flash is held a little longer at the beginning for that reason. And the timing is linear. I bet an ease-out timing would look a little better

ok - makes sense with missile command :+1:
