Music/MIDI Importer, Editor Updates, Etc

  1. Describe your reason for requesting this feature. What problems are you running into?
MIDI is the most common and most supported music format in the industry, and most music makers are familiar with it or have many projects already in this format (as well as programs to create/edit them). The Pulp music editor is very difficult to use and could benefit greatly from moving the UI to a more "tracker" like interface, or even one such as common MIDI editors with a more intuitive design.

  2. How would this request improve your experience with using Pulp?
Being able to convert MIDI to the JSON format for use in Pulp and the PlayDate would bring a much greater efficiency to the system, giving people more freedom to import music they've already made or even just create musics in a more familiar format so they spend less time fighting with learning a new creator tool and more time making their projects a reality.

  3. Include any other details you have relating to this request.
While the implementation of this could prove difficult, a couple users have already dabbled with a MIDI to JSON conversion and it seems promising. Beyond that, MIDI files could easily follow a setup to make things simpler (e.g. each instrument track being titled "Triangle" or "Saw" and simply having 5 tracks in the MIDI to accommodate the various channels, which would make importing them easier since the converter could just assign the tracks automatically and then the user could designate them afterwards depending on the intended channel).
