I’m looking for games to localize in Brazilian Portuguese and would love to keep doing Playdate projects since I’ve been super into it. I’ve been messing with the SDK and Lua and I had this idea to offer free Brazilian Portuguese localizations for your cool games.
I’m doing this to build my portfolio and level up my dev skills, no better way for me to learn than diving into others game code with a personal interest. I honestly enjoy a lot doing localization/translation (I do work in LQA). And I want to start making my own wee games.
I’ll handle the localization and testing of it, and deliver a separate .pdx file you can add to your game page. It’s your game, and you can be as involved in the process as you like.
Ideally looking at Lua or PULP projects.
I do a separate game file with the Portuguese text to keeps things clean and easier!
My Wee Portfolio:
I’ve been playing around with localizing some of SquidGod’s open-source projects, you can see my (work in progress)page on itch.
If this sounds interesting or you have any questions, give me a shout!
You can email me at marcelo.terreiro@gmail.com, message here or send me your Discord username.
I’m also open to localizing non-Playdate projects, games in development, or even just text files. Let me know if you have something in mind!
Hello!
Sounds very interesting! Would you be interested in translating Poker Poker Magic in Brazilian Portuguese?
It's a C game so compiling is required (at the moment) to update the translation BUT translations files are simple Markdown files:

Come on, Ceres, you have to help me study! Exams are coming up, and there are so many magic tricks to learn that it's giving me a headache.
> Ceres:
Coo?
< Caroline:
Yes, that's it. Look, I've prepared decks of cards. You can make them disappear by matching 3 or more cards of the same kind, straights or flushes.
> Ceres:
Coo coo.
< Caroline:
Great! Let's get started!

I can give you a code if you want to try the game.
Oooh that's very cool! I'd love to have a go at it!
I have zero C knowledge, but the translation files looks pretty straight forward to do. Even more if is just the dialogues and I don't need to worry about lenght of the text as it seems?
I've seen that there's a french version too, so that means I problably don't need to worry with accentuated words /special characters right?
If you can please send me a code to try it would be amazing! And good for context too.
Oh also one thing that can be helpful is if you could also provide the french files? Not that I know much french but romance languages have some similarities that could answer some simple doubts like gender and things like that, and will keep it more consistent in general.

Yes! Text reflow is handled by the game.

Sure thing! I also included the character list with their gender.
The French files also contain background names and difficulty settings
