Option to make lock button default to deep sleep

Would be good if users could choose to have the lock button default the device into deep sleep mode to conserve battery. My new from factory play date with firmware 2.7.3 on a full charge last no more than 24 hours in sleep mode, with one hour of play in between, before requiring recharging (with wifi set to "ask"). Until the battery issues are resolved the option to have the lock default to deep sleep would make this device a little bit easier to carry around and use.

You can press and hold the lock button for 10 seconds to put it into hibernation mode. I hope that helps!

For many, due to battery issues, deep sleep is the only way to really use the device. So would be great if in future making deepsleep the default would be an option in the settings.

If I hand the device to a friend to play i can't be sure they will put it in deep sleep (they wont) and so my batter will drain. I also forget sometimes to do it and battery is drained. So, there are a lot of reasons to give the users the option to make deep sleep the default

I think the problem with this is that if they release a deep sleep mode in the next update, why not just fix the battery drain issue, then you don't need to put it into deep sleep every time.

The battery issues could be hardware related. It may be that the company can't directly admit this without creating bigger issues, such as an unaffordable recall. At least this is the wost case I'm anticipating. I hope I am wrong. But if that case is possible a good compromise is some features to work around the issue.

The battery issues are clearly not hardware related, given that they were introduced in an update (2.7.0). Updates only affect software and firmware, so that is clearly what is causing the battery drain issue.

Just that I see many people with latest firmware claiming they don't have the issue. Some have it. Some don't. That'd why I assumed it could be hardware related as different generations of the device would have slightly different hardware

It appears to be a firmware issue that only reveals itself on certain devices, given that it only appeared after an update.
