Trick 'r Treat Game Jam + Pulp = Trick Treating

Hello!

I’m here ‘cause I want to share my experience with Pulp and Game Jams. The first was Uncrank’d, a 7-day game jam where I only had about 3 hours a day to work on it. That was definitely not enough time, especially since I misunderstood the theme; I thought "reflective" meant creating something introspective. I didn’t playtest it enough, which led to a pretty predictable result. I still want to revisit and improve it, but I’ve been focused on other projects in the meantime.

For my second jam, I convinced two friends to join me. They had minimal experience with Pulp, which made things challenging, as Pulp isn’t really designed for collaboration. This time, we participated in Play Jam 6, a 3-day jam with the theme "Trick or Treat," fitting for the season. We each dedicated about 25 hours, significantly more than in the first jam! However, the result wasn’t quite what we hoped for.

We approached the theme in a slightly different way, hoping to be original, and the feedback we received was positive. However, we faced challenges in integrating the code we had created, which led to several conflicts that were complex to resolve. As a result, we didn’t have time for playtesting.

But I’m not giving up, and I’m excited to share the outcome of our efforts! Taking the feedback into account, we prepared a second version after the game jam. In addition to fixing various bugs and graphical issues, we changed the timer, added more feedback, included a "how to play" section, corrected the score-saving feature, and integrated keyboard support (thanks to TalonJay!) for entering the player's name and new font (thank you idleberg!).

We’re also eager to implement a phase 2 to make the game more strategic, so any suggestions would be welcome!

Thanks for reading! I’m looking forward to your feedback.

Cheers!
