Fish Heaven - a 3D arcade fishing experience

Hey all, I've been posting about this project in the unofficial Playdate Squad Discord and figured I should start a thread here. I started writing my own 3D engine late May, and a couple weeks ago was finally able to shift from engine development to gameplay implementation.

Still a lot to go but having a gameplay loop of cast-reel-repeat is a big milestone. Working on polishing that core loop before working on fish behavior / hooked gameplay, which is coming up soon.

Took a break in December, back at it! Focusing on visual polish for the terrain and rendering optimization.

Notably, getting around 35fps on device with distance fog.

More recent update! All "developer art" placeholders have been replaced**, so no more selection square or cube lure. The lake view is looking very nice, with dynamic wave rendering and far-shore geometry. Underwater has much nicer terrain, and dynamic fishing line.

Next up I'm going to be finishing up the main loop, specifically implementing fish behavior. Once I'm done with that I'll get a small initial playtest going.
