How to retrigger signals without being added directly to a synth

I'm using the Windows SDK v2.6.2
I've been having a lot of fun playing with the playdate.sound objects and have hit a snag.
I don't know if this is a bug or a feature request so I'm putting it here.

I am using an LFO as the signal for the frequency mod of a two pole filter. I want the LFO to retrigger but this doesn't seem to happen. As far as I can tell, signals only retrigger when used on a synth. So because the LFO is used on the filter which is on the channel, it's not getting retriggered.
Is there a way to get the synth to retrigger the LFO without the LFO being used on the synth object?
