PlayTris - how to make a game while waiting for the console.

The story

This is my first game. I was so excited to finally play with Playdate, that I decided to make my own game while it was on the way.

So I have 2 weeks, therefore 4 days. I still need to go to work and spend time socialising. The decision to make the game needed to be fast. Miraculously, Playdate doesn't have any Tetris-like games using the whole display width. This is where PlayTris comes in.

The good old game we all know and love, now in a gothic version available on Playdate console with two modes:

  • Normal you will get a random stream of tetromino each time.
  • Daily you can challenge yourself to find the perfect solution! Expect the same stream of tetromino that changes daily.

Prepare to hold your Playdate differently. This game is in a portrait orientation.

Controls :

  • Up/Down to move tetromino left and right.
  • Left to move tetromino down.
  • A to rotate tetromino.

Fear not this game was tested on lefties and righties, it is comfortable for all.

Awesome work! Welcome to the community!

There was news circulating a year or so ago about another game that was sent a cease and desist from the The Tetris Company, Inc. So they had to change their name. Hope you don't get hit too!

I hope it would apply to me. This is why I avoiding any of their trademarkable names.

Yeah looking at BlockDate's git history, their game was called PlayTris before the cease and desist and they had to change it. Updating name, description and bundleID of pdxinfo · thacuber2a03/BlockDate@96eee7f · GitHub
