Looking for a Playdate Developer / Artist for a Narrative Graphic Novel Concept That Utilises The Crank

We’re developing an interactive graphic novel for the Playdate, built around a short script originally written for the screen as a short film. As the project evolved, it became clear this story would work far better as a graphic-novel-style narrative experience, and the Playdate felt like the perfect home for it.

The idea isn’t a traditional game, but rather a narrative-led experience that leans into Playdate’s strengths: its 1-bit screen, its intimacy, and especially the crank. We already have a clear creative idea for how the crank would be used as part of the storytelling — not just for scrolling or page turns, but as a meaningful, story-driven interaction.

We’d suggest to splitting the sales evenly, yet do realise that because the Playdate isn’t a huge commercial market, this is very much an art-driven project. We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about the platform and excited by experimentation — someone interested in narrative, and unusual forms of interaction.

Ideally, you might be:

• Interested in developing and/or creating imagery for the Playdate (Lua / SDK / Pulp, etc.)

• Interested in narrative or graphic-novel-style experiences

• Curious about using the crank in non-standard, expressive ways

If you’re interested in reading the script, hearing more about the idea, and discussing how we’d use the crank for this graphic novel, please email us at:

If of interest, you can find some of my filmmaking work here: www.yourguyoscar.com and I can also share some fiction pieces that are not on the website.

Looking forward to connecting with fellow Playdate enthusiasts.
